Idk why but Lieutenant is one of my favorite words

Isn’t lieutenant a French word though? I thought you hated the French?

Oh I do, but their military terminology is alright

I hate when british people pronounce it with an F

That’s how your pronounce it though

nigga what you mean “that’s how you pronounce it” where tf you get an F sound of of “leiutennant”

With an F? How the fuck do you pronounce it with an F?

It is pronounced with an F, like lefttenant. I didn’t know this either until I started studying Othello as a part of my English Literature A Level

You’re wrong, it’s Lieu-ten-nant. Britbongs get out.

I don’t believe a word of this nonsense. Britain has committed some crimes against pronunciation (and other things) in the past, but lieutenant with an F seems too far-fetched for even them.

dude, that’s how they ACTUALLY pronounce it.

It’s a “v” actually.  Because they see the “u” in it and then try to be all “oh the Romans would have used a “v” here so it’s “lievtenant” but due to our rotten teeth we can’t put a ‘v’ in the middle so let’s do an ‘f’ instead.

“Leftenant”

That’s actually quite interesting, I didn’t know that.

You may notice it in the original Colonies, or on Neoclassical buildings.  Like my home courthouse is “Lovdovn” instead of Loudoun.
