John McAfee would dare someone to try to kill him
Who is McAffe and what happened to get him to strap so heavily?
He created McAfee antivirus, made a shitload of money, sold the company (which was later run into the ground), moved to Belize, experimented with A LOT of drugs, moved back to the US, ran for president, lost, got a DUI. At some point he pissed off a cartel’s relationship with the Belize government and they kinda want him dead, plus other random rich guy death threats.
Forgot the part that he’s more or less wanted for murder in Belize.
I didn’t forget it. Someone else ended up being arrested and convicted of that crime after he left the country.
Intetesting, hadn’t heard the case was closed. Last I heard they were pretty sure he’d payed the guy to do it. Was one of his own bodyguards. One of his other employees admitted to paying the guy.
It was all kinds of fucked up. John had filed a complaint against his neighbor for poisoning one of his dogs, and sometime later pissed off the government. After the neighbor turned up dead they had a motive and means to get him and went for it. Eventually he fled and made the mistake of trusting VICE who leaked his location “accidentally”. One of his body guards was arrested for weapons possession (all the guns were licensed to John) and I think he was leveraged into the claim of paying the guy they convicted.
It’s all sketchy, 3rd world politics, and no court other than Belize thinks he had anything to do with it.
