Sometimes I think about how the heroic spirit ritual was originally a magical ritual meant to summon 7 spirits to act as guardians / protectors meant to cooperate against a single enemy and then Zouken / the Makiri saw this and thought “Hmmm. Sounds more like a ritual to conjure us some disposable HUMAN SACRIFICES” and did just that, thus confusing magi as to the real purpose of heroic spirits for a thousand years.

Then comes Gudao/Gudako who has absolutely no idea what they’re doing but accidentally restores the ritual to its original purpose of conjuring defenders, except instead of 7 they summon 283843840984239709481047381247234709473587093 of them and also use them to run a chocolate factory, explore haunted hotels, and drive dragons towards extinction for their teeth.
