This is how I see the Imperial Infantryman’s Uplifting Primer to be honest. I get that it’s funny seeing the hyper-propaganda like “orks are all weedy and sickly and easily killed” but I struggle to get behind that being the root of all Guard training. That’s why I prefered the Munitorum Manual, it reads more like a genuine military guide.

For a real comparison, check this out:

The little booklet on the left was the “Marne Standard” booklet.  It was a required pocket item you always had to have on you in uniform (there was also a battalion one, a suicide prevention card, and some other bullshit).  It has a letter from the commanding general, a brief history of the division, the uniform standard (extending AR 670-1), and then the various creeds and songs and bullshit that you’re supposed to know and care about.

That is the equivalent of the Imperial Infantryman’s Uplifting Primer.

On the right is the Field Manual covering the basics of marksmanship for the M16/M4 series of rifles and carbines.  It includes an overview of how to do a battalion/company level training program, the characteristics of and how to use the rifles and the accessories commonly issued with them and so on.  For a sense of scale, the first twelve pages are the table of contents.  This doesn’t include how to maintain the rifles, that’s the Technical Manual (TM 9-1005-213-10 for the operator level, if you’re curious or want to find it).  There’s no tactics (ATP 3-21.8), just how to use the rifle and the basics of the attachments.

So yeah, a little pocket guide is probably not what all the training is based on.  Even that guardsman’s manual there would be at best a “Graphical Training Aid” or “Quick Reference Card”.
