the cyberpunk future I wanted: neon colors everywhere. enterprising individuals act as guns and hackers for hire, working with street gangs, the government, and megacorps alike. everyone carries a pistol and SMGs are in vogue because it’s understood you can’t entrust your physical safety to others. the human body is out, cybernetic augs are in. everyone has a healthy level of distrust for the system. popular music is synth-y and tells the stories of the oppressed.
the cyberpunk future I got: writing petitions to tell my city government to keep amazon HQ2 away. nobody trusts the government but pays megacorps to put listening devices in their homes so they can order cat food with a voice command. people don’t trust the cops because they regularly shoot unarmed people, but think you shouldn’t be allowed to defend yourself or your property. “self-love” is often interpreted as an excuse to let your body go. music videos have kanye west dancing in a roblox costume.
Psh. I wish nobody trusted the government. As soon as Trump’s out they’ll start trusting it again just you watch.
